Other Projects

Projects currently in progress are as follows::

  • S2 Aircraft Development.

The S2 aircraft is a natural progression from a previous project, the Stability Augmented Flyer (SAF). Project SAF was primarily concerned with development of a four-rotor VTOL aircraft and the application of re-configurable custom hardware to produce a System on Chip (SoC) avionics solution. The S2 project expands this scope to encompass investigation a wide range of avionics and communications technologies.

  • Dynamically Reconfiguarble Avionics.

Research and development has been carried out in the area of reconfigurable avionics hardware to aid management of hardware upgrades of aircraft fleets. This study of dynamically reconfiguarble avionics systems proposes to implement a system of hardware reconfiguration of avionics systems whilst in use to allow rapid aircraft role change in the field as well as implementing a SoC avionics system with multiple redundancy management via partial reconfiguration.

  • Low Cost Inertial Navigation.

Traditionally IN platforms have been physically large and expensive items. This project aims to develop a low cost IN solution based upon new generation piezo gyro technology. It is likely the system will be integrated with other systems such as GPS to produce a hybrid solution.
